Today is the first day of Autumn! Story has it that if you catch a falling leaf on the first day of autumn, you’ll have good fortune throughout the winter. So go outside and grab a leaf out of the sky!

Now that summer is officially over, I am thinking about what I did over this past summer and what has happened in these past few months…

In no particular order, here are a few of the big & smalls of my summer of 2011:

• Made a trip down to Ohio for massive amounts of Roman candles.
• Celebrated my birthday by shooting said candles at my friends; I ended up with a lovely scar.
• Played disc golf (and not well).
• Took a vacation up north to Indian River.
• Got a new phone.
• Visited Mackinac Island for the first time ever, and watched the sun set behind Mackinac Bridge.
• Rode in a brand new Chevy Corvette.
• Played mini golf with my sister & best friend.
• Watched the Lake Orion fireworks with Renee.
• Rolled my Corolla into a swampy ditch.
• Had a girls’ day with my sister doing dinner, a movie, and ice cream.
• Sang to a baby turtle and eggs.
• Made brownies with my boyfriend.
• Welcomed my brand new niece into the world.
• Went to the Michigan Renaissance Festival for the first time!
• Visited the Rochester Cider Mill for yummy cider & doughnuts.

{Ashley} Farewell Summer! (3 photos).

Labor Day has come and gone, signalling the official start of school in Michigan. But all the Back-to-School sales aren’t the only things declaring that summer is over. Here in Metro Detroit, nothing can describe our current weather other than GLOOMY GLOOMY GLOOMY. The temperature is rapidly dropping (from highs in the 80s to the 50s in a few days) & dreary rain clouds are rolling in.

At the beginning of the month, before summer started to seemingly wither away, I snapped a few very seasonal shots. Looking through them brings a tad of warmth to me on this 50° day as I remember the high temps and bright sunshine that were abundant just a week ago…

So as the leaves are already beginning to fall, I say farewell to summer and prepare to bundle up in my autumn jackets and hand-crocheted scarves ^.^
